SAN FRANCISCO - Research In Motion (RIM) is reportedly going to great transition, which is likely the company will start licensing BlackBerry software for third-party vendors, including Samsung and HTC.
It was mentioned in a recent research note by analyst Peter Misek of Jefferies & Company, who saw an opportunity to mengggantikan Barbara Stymiest both chairman of RIM, Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie. "We believe he will initiate a formal strategic review, it is possible to cut costs in the hardware business and likely to announce additional partnerships," Misek wrote, as quoted by Fox Business, Sunday (08/01/2012).
According to Misek, RIM has set up a plan that likely will see the software licensed to the other top vendors, including Samsung and HTC. Although not explained how companies such as Samsung and HTC will use the software.
"We think RIM has started some things, such as the possibility to agree to license BlackBerry 10 for Samsung, HTC and possibly others. This will help create a mass for the ecosystem and maintain a monthly service revenue RIM," wrote the analysis.
Possible transition from Balsillie and Lazaridis to Stymiest as chairman of the board, with the steps to license BlackBerry software will be impacted for the long term rather than short term.
"It puts more pressure on the hardware business in the short term. The long-term, probably will make the addiction to the ecosystem vendors RIM and could probably sell more handsets BlackBeryy 10. But if they are able to create attractive handsets," he said.
