SEOUL - Samsung has voiced its goal of becoming the number one notebook maker. This means that the company will be the rival Apple with its MacBook lineup of best-selling.
Reported by Apple Insider, Saturday (01/14/2012), after enjoying success in the smart TV and smartphones, South Korean companies appear to increase attention to conquering the notebook market.
"The strategic position of the notebook product line has become increasingly important, with the overall mix of Samsung Electronics. And the company's main goal is to occupy the top ranking in the segment" according to Executive Vice President Gregory Lee, as reported by DigiTimes.
But to achieve these objectives, the Samsung seems to be facing fierce competition with Apple, which has reaped success over and over with a new portable MacBook MacBook Air is overhauled again. According to reports earlier this week, Apple managed to sell 1.2 million units of the MacBook Air in the December quarter, in which the amount was increased by 200 thousand from the third quarter of 2011.
In response to the success of the MacBook Air, Intel released the design specifications ultrabook last year. Chip maker aims to encourage ultrabook achieve 40 percent share in the laptop market in late 2012.
Even so, Apple is the only company of the top five PC vendors in the United States (U.S.) with shipments growing in the last quarter, which grew 20.7 percent compared with 26.1 percent decline in shipments of the top PC maker, HP. While Samsung does not appear on one list of top five PC vendors from Gartner, for global and U.S. markets.
As for smartphones, needless to say Samsung has been prominent with its line of smartphones in just a few years, with claims occupy the top position from Apple and Nokia in the third quarter of 2011.
